Registration and protection of trademarks in Pakistan is regulated under the Trademarks Ordinance, 2001.
STEPS INVOLVED FOR TRADEMARK REGISTRATION
Step 1: Search for availability of trademark
A detailed list of products to be covered by the trademark availability.
Step 2: Submission of Form
Application form submission once the search research does not found a similar trademark.
Step 3: Acknowledge of Form
On receipt of the application, a trademark number is allotted to an applicant. In case of any objection regarding the content or the proposed trademark, the Registration Office will issue a show cause notice.
Step 4: Trademark Publish in Journal
If there is no objection made on the application, the trademark is then allowed to publish in the monthly Journal published by Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO).
Step 5: Registration of a Trademark
If there is no objection raised after trademark publish in journal, the request of trademark registration is accepted. Trademark registration can be obtained at this stage after submitting the form and paying registration fees. Once the trademark is registered, the Registrar will issue a certificate called Registration Certificate of a trademark. After obtaining certificate, the applicant may use the insignia (®) for their brand.
